<p id=”par-1_63″>Thomas Markle, <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/tag/meghan-markle/?swcfpc=1″>Meghan Markle’s</a> father, has never been shy about speaking on life with — and without — his daughter. However, speaking out is also what ruined his relationship with Meghan so many years ago. Thomas and Meghan were once close, but after it was learned he <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/meghan-markles-dad-admits-to-this-major-lie.html/”>had staged paparazzi photos</a> and leaked a personal letter from his daughter, she cut him off.</p>
<p id=”par-2_20″>Now, Thomas is still out there talking about Meghan, and this time, he’s brought her ex-husband into his latest interview.</p>

<p id=”par-3_84″>Prior to meeting Harry, Meghan was an actor who starred in the <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/meghan-markle-suits-co-star-recalls-duchess-showed-saved-her-meghans-reputation-controversy-continues.html/”>USA Network show <em>Suits</em></a>. She lived a much different life than she does now, having spent most of her time between California and Toronto. Meghan was married once before she wed Harry. Meghan had begun dating producer Trevor Engelson back in 2004, and the couple wed in Jamaica in 2011. However, after about two years, they officially separated, and their divorce was finalized in 2014 — two years before Meghan met Harry.</p>
<p id=”par-4_51″>Little was known about Engelson up until Meghan and Harry started dating, but there have always been rumors that Meghan was the one who ended the marriage, with the reasons remaining unknown. And when Thomas Markle, 80, recently spoke to <a href=”https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/royals/article-14250231/Meghan-father-America-world-exclusive-interview-Thomas-Markle-grandchildren.html”>Daily Mail</a>, he chose to bring Engelson’s name into the conversation.</p>
<p id=”par-5_60″>“”I really liked Trevor,” Thomas told Daily Mail. “I don’t think he ever understood why she dumped him, either.” It’s unclear how well Thomas knew Engelson, or whether he was intentionally bringing his name up in conversation with the hope Harry would see it. Interestingly enough, Daily Mail reports that Thomas still has wedding videos of Meghan’s wedding to Engelson.</p>

<p id=”par-6_45″>Meghan and Thomas reportedly haven’t had much contact in the years that followed Meghan’s high-profile royal wedding, where King Charles walked her down the aisle instead of her dad. Thomas has never met his grandchildren, and he has never been to Harry and Meghan’s home.</p>
<p id=”par-7_79″>It’s unclear whether there was tension previously in <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/thomas-markle-slams-meghan-markle-claim-lost-father-dumped-me.html/”>Meghan’s relationship with her father</a> that ultimately led to her cutting him off after the paparazzi incident. However, Meghan and Harry have remained close with Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland, who lives near Harry and Meghan and spends plenty of time with the Sussex children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. Thomas revealed that he plans to move to Southeast Asia, so it seems like he and Meghan might never rebuild their relationship.</p>
