As snow continues to fall across Colorado on Thursday, creating icy and hazardous travel conditions, multiple roads have been shut down for crashes and weather-related safety concerns, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.
Nearly 150 miles of westbound Interstate 70 is closed on the Eastern Plains for “adverse weather conditions,” CDOT officials said.
The westbound interstate is closed between E-470 east of Watkins and Exit 438 for Rose Avenue in Burlington near the Colorado-Kansas Border. Traffic cameras along the closure show wet, icy and snow-dusted roads as well as blowing snow.
U.S. 24, which runs parallel to I-70, is also closed for weather between Marion Street in Burlington and U.S. 40, CDOT officials said. That’s from Mile Point 454 to Mile Point 420.
Other closures include:
- U.S. 40 in both directions between U.S. 24 and Palmer Avenue in Kit Carson near Limon for adverse weather conditions;
- U.S. 40 in both directions between Avery Street near Empire and Soda Creek Road near Floyd Hill for safety concerns and a crash;
- Colorado 71 in both directions between U.S. 24 and U.S. 36 in Limon for safety concerns;
- Colorado 86 in both directions between Pawnee Avenue east of Elizabeth and I-70 near Kiowa for safety concerns;
- Eastbound U.S. 50 between Colorado 149 and North Beaver Creek Road west of Gunnison for a vehicle recovery.
