Bears seek interview with Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy: report

The Bears reached out to the Cowboys to request an interview with their sitting head coach, Mike McCarthy, per ESPN. The team, which is casting a wide net in searching for their next head coach, is waiting for a response.

McCarthy is in a tenuous spot with the Cowboys. His contract expires Wednesday but he has an exclusive negotiating window with the Cowboys that expires Jan. 14. If the Cowboys don’t allow an interview, the Bears could circle back when his window expires.

Adding to the intrigue: McCarthy is a Packers legend, having won Super Bowl XLV after the 2010 season. There’s a street named after him in the Green Bay area — Mike McCarthy Way. In 13 years with the Packers, he won the NFC North six times.

McCarthy, who called offensive plays for the Cowboys this season, is 49-35 in five seasons with the team. Owner Jerry Jones has been non-committal about his future.
