SAN FRANCISCO — A woman has been charged with embezzling mail while she was working for the U.S. Postal Service, record show.
Navdeep Kaur allegedly “admitted to stealing a large quantity of mail entrusted to her and intended for delivery,” prosecutors said in court filings. She was charged with embezzlement by a mail employee, a charge that carries up to five years behind bars.
Kaur was hired by the postal service in April 2023, and prosecutors in court filings said her employment ended the day after Christmas last year. She allegedly confessed to the theft after an internal investigation began, records show.
Prosecutors haven’t disclosed exactly what Kaur allegedly stole, but they have filed a forfeiture petition for the stolen property.
Kaur pleaded not guilty at her first court appearance on Dec. 18, records show.
