Three takeaways from Bears’ 34-17 loss to Lions

Three takeaways from Sunday’s 34-17 loss to the Lions at Soldier Field:

Time for 9

The Bears lost their ninth consecutive game, putting them one off of their single-season losing streak record of 10, set in 2022, Matt Eberflus’ first season. Many Bears fans didn’t want to see it up close — there were more Honolulu blue Lions jerseys in the stands than any visiting team has shown all year.

All pass, no run

Trailing 20-0 in the first half, the Bears spent the second half throwing the ball — and not running. Caleb Williams’ garbage-time throws left him with a sparkling stat line — 26-for-40 for 334 yards, two touchdowns and a 107.7 passer rating. D’Andre Swift ran only nine times for 20 yards, though, and fellow running back Roschon Johnson had one carry for three yards.

Ja-red Goff

Lions fans serenaded their quarterback with chants of “Ja-red Goff,” and with good reason. The former No. 1 overall pick completed 23-of-32 passes for 336 yards, three touchdowns and a sparkling 137 passer rating. It was a brutal six days for the Bears defense, which allowed 330 yards, two touchdowns and a 116.1 passer rating to Vikings quarterback Sam Darnold on Monday.

Latest on the Bears
The Bears lost their ninth consecutive game, putting them one off of their single-season losing streak record of 10, set in 2022.
The Lions scored on their first five possessions — three TDs and two field goals — and gained 475 yards against a Bears defense that has to come to a hard realization: It hasn’t been the same since the Hail Mary against the Commanders.
As he had the previous three weeks, the Bears’ rookie quarterback spent most of a 34-17 loss to the Lions playing from behind. There were soft coverages and no firm stakes.
