<p id=”par-1_40″>Millions of fans around the world watched <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/tag/prince-harry/?swcfpc=1″>Prince Harry</a> and <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/tag/meghan-markle/?swcfpc=1″>Meghan Markle</a> tie the knot on May 19, 2018. The couple said “I do” in front of 600 guests at St. George’s Chapel on the grounds of Windsor Castle. </p>
<p id=”par-2_31″>The chapel is one of the places of worship for <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/royal-family/?swcfpc=1″>the royal family</a> and has also been the location for many events and weddings since the reign of Queen Victoria. </p>
<p id=”par-3_50″>But the chapel wasn’t the place the Duke of Sussex had in mind to say “I do.” And it wasn’t where <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/tag/prince-william/?swcfpc=1″>Prince William</a> thought they should get married either. According to Harry, William offered a very unusual suggestion of where his brother and Meghan could have gotten hitched. </p>

<p id=”par-4_27″><a href=”https://www.express.co.uk/news/royal/1981986/unusual-wedding-venue-prince-harry-nuptials” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>Express</a> noted that in <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/prince-harrys-memoir-spare-now-become-one-most-discarded-books-time.html/”>his explosive memoir <em>Spare</em></a>, Harry claimed that his wedding venue was a point of contention and he discussed it with his sibling. </p>
<p id=”par-5_59″>The duke said that he mentioned having his wedding at Westminster Abbey, but that was quickly shot down by William because that’s where he married the Princess of Wales (<a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/dont-be-fooled-this-is-what-kate-middleton-was-really-like-in-school.html/”>formerly known as Kate Middleton</a>). Harry then brought up St. Paul’s Cathedral as a potential choice. To that, William supposedly replied: “Too grand. Plus Pa and Mummy did it there.”</p>
<p id=”par-6_35″>Harry explained that William didn’t think he and Meghan deserved a grand affair and offered a surprising suggestion when he proposed holding the ceremony at a village chapel in Tetbury, near King Charles’s Highgrove estate.</p>
<p id=”par-7_31″>Harry reacted with a laugh and asked, “Seriously, Willy? How many does that place seat?” before recalling that William shot back: “Isn’t that what you said you wanted–a small, quiet wedding?”</p>

<p id=”par-8_44″>In the end, the Sussexes had a beautiful wedding at St. George’s Chapel. But despite Prince Harry’s version about where to have his wedding, another prince said royals do not choose where to get married but are told where they’ll be getting married. </p>

<p id=”par-9_21″>A few months after the duke and duchess, Harry’s cousin, Princess Eugenie wed Jack Brooksbank at the Windsor Castle chapel. </p>
<p id=”par-10_39″>The princess’s father, Prince Andrew, shared that the reason his daughter and Brooksbank were having their wedding at the same chapel as Harry and Meghan. The Duke of York revealed it was because Queen Elizabeth II chose that location.</p>
<p id=”par-11_48″>“It doesn’t make any difference who you are, all the approvals go through the queen anyway,” Prince Andrew explained (per <a href=”https://www.express.co.uk/news/royal/1429086/prince-andrew-meghan-markle-prince-harry-wedding-princess-eugenie-spt” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>Express</a>). “The queen very firmly said St. George’s is where you’re having the wedding so I said, ‘Aye aye mam, turn to the right, salute and carry on.’”</p>
