San Jose State beats Stanford with late interception, touchdown pass

SAN JOSE – With 1:55 left in the fourth quarter, Treyshun Hurry hauled in an 18-yard reception from Walker Eget and SJSU hung on for a 34-31 victory over Stanford in the 68th Bill Walsh Legacy Game.

Stanford led late, but instead of running to try and force SJSU’s last timeout, Cardinal quarterback Ashton Daniels threw a pass on third down with 2:39 left that was intercepted by Isiah Revis.

After the Spartans led 24-10 in the third quarter, Daniels and fellow quarterback Justin Lamson rushed for touchdowns.

On the second play of the fourth quarter, Eget was sacked by Justin Bailey and fumbled. SJSU lineman Peseti Lapuaho, who then fumbled the ball into the end zone where it was ultimately recovered by Stanford to make it 27-24.

Eget finished 33-for-49, 385 touchdowns, four touchdown passes, an interception and a fumble.

Biletnikoff Award finalist Nick Nash caught two touchdowns in the third quarter and finished the game with eight receptions and 91 yards.

Stanford had the opportunity to extend its lead to 10-0 in the second quarter when it was inside the San Jose State 5-yard line but went backward three of the four plays from that position.
