The Oaks Christian boys cross country team captured its first CIF Southern Section title in Division 4 on Saturday.
The Lions can keep the momentum going this weekend at the CIF State meet, which will be held at Woodward Park in Fresno on Saturday, Nov. 30.
“The outcomes are incentives and things that interest us in trying to be better,” Oaks Christian coach Wes Smith said, “but really the conversation we’ve been having for a long time … was you guys can really accomplish some unique things together and so I think this was an affirmation.”
Christian Yoder and Cooper McNee finished second and third, respectively, in the 3-mile race at Mt. SAC. Yoder clocked 15 minutes, 6.3 seconds and McKnee, a West Point commit, finished in 15:11.9.
“They push each other to success,” Smith said. “They flip-flop wins here and there and it’s all positive. It’s all exciting. If the other guy improves, then they know they can improve. It doesn’t matter if anyone else is in the race, they’re driving each other to their limits.”
All of Oaks Christian’s runners finished in the top 20. Joshua Mitchell was 11th (15:44.4), Arizechkwu Nwosu was 13th (15:46.2) and Vin Krueger was 17th (15:50.1).
