Three people were in custody after shots were fired at Chicago police officers early Wednesday in the Mayfair neighborhood on the Northwest Side.
Around 2:10 a.m., officers on patrol in the 4600 block of North Knox Avenue found a vehicle matching the description of one involved in an earlier incident that may have involved a gunman, Chicago police said.
Officers approached the parked vehicle when several males exited and began running away, police said.
One person was immediately placed into custody, and as an arresting officer went after the other fleeing males, they took cover after hearing gunfire, officials said.
Assisting units arrived and two other suspects were taken into custody after a search of the area, authorities said.
Four firearms were recovered and no injuries were reported, police said. Responding officers didn’t fire any shots.
Charges were pending.
