Pedestrian dies in Berkeley traffic collision

BERKELEY — A 78-year-old man died Thursday night after he was struck by a vehicle while walking across a street in North Berkeley, authorities said.

The name of the man, a Berkeley resident, was not immediately released pending notification of his family.

The collision happened about 6:17 p.m. Thursday at the intersection of Rose and Josephine streets, police said.

Police said the man was crossing Rose Street and was struck by a vehicle driven by a 79-year-old Berkeley woman woman that was traveling eastbound on Rose Street.

The man died later at a hospital.

The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation, police said

The man’s death is the fourth traffic fatality of the year investigated by police.
