With ballots still being counted on Thursday, Nov. 14, former state Assemblymember Adrin Nazarian won his race against Jillian Burgos for a seat on the Los Angeles City Council representing a wide swath of the San Fernando Valley, while incumbent Councilmember Heather Hutt won against attorney Grace Yoo in a council district that stretches from Koreatown to Palms.
And one of the closest races in Los Angeles County this year remained undecided in state Senate District 35 between two Democrats, Laura Richardson and Michelle Chambers.
Los Angeles City Council District 2: Former state Assemblymember Nazarian easily won his race for the 2nd District council seat, overcoming business owner and political newcomer Burgos. According to the Los Angeles County Registrar, as of Nov. 14, Nazarian had 54.04% and 43,643 votes, while Burgos had 45.96% and 37,115 votes.
Nazarian said, “This campaign was always about everyday people getting a fair shake from City Hall and I’m proud that we were able to connect with so many voters about issues like jobs, economic development, safety and security, housing and homelessness and basic city services.”
He said of his team, “We’re going to hit the ground running on day one and start the work of ensuring the voice of the people is heard loud and clear in City Hall. I’m truly humbled to be able to carry this work forward.” District 2 includes North Hollywood, Studio City, Sun Valley, Valley Village, Van Nuys and Valley Glen.
Los Angeles City Council District 10: Los Angeles City Councilmember Hutt won the race with voters strongly choosing her over attorney Yoo, her team said. According to figures released Thursday by the Los Angeles County Registrar, Hutt had 63.04% and 49,675 votes over Yoo who had 36.96% and 29,127 votes.
Hutt was appointed in 2022 to the District 10 seat by the City Council after then-Councilmember Mark Ridley-Thomas was indicted on corruption charges. She is the first woman and Black woman elected in District 10, which includes all or parts of Arlington Heights, Koreatown, Mid-City, Palms, South Robertson, West Adams and Wilshire Center.
State Senate District 35: Election results on Thursday, Nov. 14, showed Laura Richardson had 50.54% or 119,818 votes, while Michelle Chambers came in at 49.46%, or 117,280 votes — or 2,538 votes behind Richardson.

This Democrat-versus-Democrat race to replace term-limited state Sen. Steven Bradford features Richardson, a housing advocate and small business owner who previously served on the Long Beach City Council, in the state Assembly, and in the U.S. House of Representatives; and Chambers, a Compton resident and a community justice advocate who previously served on the Compton City Council.
State Senate District 35 represents South L.A. County, including all or parts of Inglewood, Hawthorne, Compton, Carson and San Pedro.
