2 cats rescued from North Center apartment fire

No body was hurt but firefighters were able to save the lives of two cats during an apartment fire Wednesday morning in the North Center neighborhood.

Around 7 a.m., firefighters responded to the 4200 block of North Leavitt Street for a fire that started in the basement of the building, Chicago Fire Department spokesperson Larry Langford said.

Residents in the building self-evacuated and two cats were rescued from the building, Langford said.

Some displacements were expected, added Langford, and the cause of the fire was still under investigation.
