Rep. Tony Cárdenas provides $500,000 for Van Nuys supportive housing project

Congressman Tony Cardenas presented a check for $500,000 in federal Community Project Funding to Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass on Thursday, Nov. 7 to fix and update a Van Nuys apartment building for a permanent supportive housing renovation project.

According to a prepared statement, Bass and Cárdenas announced “new federal funding for renovations of a 30-unit permanent housing complex to provide a safer and healthier environment for residents, including those who previously experienced homelessness.”

Stephanie Klasky-Gamer, president and CEO of L.A. Family Housing, and Elda Mendez-Lemus, executive director of L.A. Family Housing, also attended the event.

L.A. Family Housing’s view is that everyone “has a unique life experience that defines what type of support they need. With these needs in mind, we connect participants to the right type of housing for them, and surround them with services that are proven to foster long-term housing stability.”
