A Ventura County brush fire that ignited on a day of red-flag warnings across California quickly grew to 1,000 acres and forced evacuations east of Oxnard.

The Mountain Fire was reported shortly before 9 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 6, and within an hour, evacuations were ordered for a 30-square-mile area, shown in red on the map above.
By 10 a.m., it was estimated at 1,000 acres.
High winds grounded fixed-wing aircraft, so helicopters were requested for the firefighting effort.

Red-flag warnings, indicating heightened fire danger, were in effect Wednesday for much of coastal California. The warning for the Ventura area cited low humidity and strong Santa Ana winds.
