Students across Los Angeles area schools celebrate Dodgers’ World Series win

As tens and thousands of fans flooded downtown Los Angeles Friday for the Dodgers’ World Series victory parade, local students joined the festivities from their classrooms.

In school districts across the Los Angeles region, students cheered on their hometown heroes by donning blue jerseys and tuning in to watch the celebration unfold.

“We recognize that this was a historic and exciting day, and we appreciate the students who came to school to enjoy this time with their classmates and teachers,” Sara Myers, a spokesperson for the Torrance Unified School District, said in a statement Friday afternoon. “Torrance Unified had many staff and students proudly wearing their Dodger blue hats, jerseys, and other items on Thursday and Friday, and some were still hoarse from yelling and cheering their teams on.”

This celebration carried on all week, Myers said. This week, North High School students also challenged their teachers and staff in an exciting round of Dodger history trivia in front of the gym, she added.

The Dodgers spirit was also in full swing at South Bay Christian School in Torrance, where TK through 8th-grade students arrived ready to celebrate the Dodgers’ World Series victory.

The campus was transformed to a mini Dodger Stadium with students decked out in jerseys, blue hats, and all things Dodgers, school officials said. Waves of cheers and high-fives filled the air as students proudly sported their Dodger blue.

“Our students were so excited to wear Dodger Blue and celebrate the victory of our Los Angeles Dodgers! We have been inspired by the grit, hard work, never give up mentality and the commoraderie of the Dodger players throughout the season as well as the post season,”  said Kirsten Born, the school’s principal.

An Instagram reel hashtagged with #wewishwewerethere and #dodgersparade by Pico Pico Middle School in Los Angeles showed brimming students and staff proudly sporting their favorite Dodgers hats, jerseys, and in some cases, hand-made cardboard jerseys displaying the words “Pico”.

Students at Albion Elementary School, located near Dodger Stadium, gathered at their playground Friday to creat the “LA” sign, which is the Dodgers’ trademark.

“Our students and staff had the fantastic idea to do the “ LA” sign with those attended school today,” said a statement from the Los Angeles Unified School District. “The effort was in response to Los Angeles Unified’s Region East’s attendance challenge.”

The principal at Albion Elementary School, Elvira Juarez, added that there’s a Dodger Day theme at school and students and staff were encouraged to wear blue.

Photos shared on Jefferson Elementary School in Lennox’s Instagram account capture students sporting Dodgers gear and happily munching on pizza in the school cafeteria.

In a short video, students are seen clapping and chanting “Let’s go Dodgers! Let’s go Dodgers!” as they watch the downtown parade on screen.

The Dodgers won their second World Series championship in five years and eighth in their history on Wednesday night, overcoming a five-run deficit to defeat the New York Yankees, 7-6, at Yankee Stadium and win the best-of-seven series four games to one.
