Bears matriarch Virginia McCaskey misses Hall of Fame cut in contributor category

Virginia McCaskey isn’t getting into the Hall of Fame this year.

The Bears matriarch was not one of the nine semifinalists in the contributor category to advance in the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s selection process Wednesday.

Those who did were Oilers/Titans founder Bud Adams, Canton Bulldogs owner Ralph Hay, former GM/scout “Bucko” Kilroy, Patriots owner Robert Kraft, Browns/Ravens owner Art Modell, Steelers vice president Art Rooney Jr., Elias Sports Bureau owner Seymour Siwoff, Washington quarterback Doug Williams and Fritz Pollard Alliance chairman John Wooten.

The selection committee will meet to pick one winner Nov. 12.

She was one of the 25 candidates announced by the Hall of Fame earlier this month before the list was whittled down.

McCaskey, who turned 101 in January, is the daughter of George Halas, the founder of the Bears and the NFL, and the mother of chairman George McCaskey. She’s a member of the Bears Board of Directors.
