Dignity Health Hospital hosts drive-through healthy food giveaway in Northridge

Dignity Health-Northridge Hospital Medical Center joined with the American Heart Association to host a monthly, drive-through event on Thursday, Oct. 24, at which it gave out healthy food to 250 to 300 families. Because Halloween is coming the first 100 families received a pumpkin to take home.

According to officials at Dignity Health-Northridge, the hospital partnered with the American Heart Association to be the first fresh free produce distribution center in the San Fernando Valley. The primary goal iis to help improve access to healthy foods, while improving the health of residents in local communities.

The American Heart Association says that Los Angeles has the biggest population of food-insecurepeople and households in U.S. and that almost 2 million residents in the area don’t know how they are going to get their next meal.
