Officers were dispatched to the Public Storage at 175 South Curtner Ave. around 1:35 a.m. on Oct. 18 for a report of a possible break-in, the Campbell Police Department said in a news release Wednesday.
Police said the business “has a history of burglaries, with suspects often gaining access to storage units through the roof.”
As officers searched the business, the suspect jumped from the roof and took off running, police said.
Campbell police officers — along with Santa Clara County sheriff’s deputies and Los Gatos-Monte Sereno police officers — cordoned off the area. They found the suspect hiding in a nearby Porta Potty, where he was taken into custody without further incident, police said.
On the roof of Public Storage, officers discovered three backpacks containing knives and burglary tools, police said. A section of the roof had also been cut open.
The suspect, identified as a 47-year-old unhoused man, was booked into county jail on charges including burglary, resisting arrest and possession of burglary tools. He was also booked on charges of possession of pepper spray, a stun gun and a concealed dagger as a felon.
At the time of his arrest, the man was under a post release community supervision order.
The suspect is being held without bail at the Elmwood Correctional Facility in Milpitas, according to online jail records. He is slated to appear in court Thursday.
