Raising Cane’s opens new location in Encino with a nod towards the area’s movie history

Raising Cane’s is bringing its wildly popular chicken fingers and perhaps its even more popular homemade sauces and Texas toast to Encino, with a Hollywood twist.

“We’re very excited about being on Ventura Boulevard. It’s in the heart of an area that had a lot of musical talent, and actors and historical figures that have had a lasting impact. So we were excited to get in the heart of all of that,” said Nico Solomon, area leader for Raising Cane’s.

The new 80-seat restaurant opened Oct. 17 at 16573 W. Ventura Blvd. This marks 96 Raising Cane’s locations in California and the fourth in the area.

Other nearby locations are in Northridge, North Hollywood and Burbank.

Launched in Louisiana in 1996 and named after the founder’s Labrador Retriever Cane, the restaurant has made a name for itself and developed a bit of a cult following by keeping things simple and serving chicken fingers, fries, coleslaw, thick Texas toasts and its sweet dipping sauce.

The new location will feature graphics and memorabilia that pay homage to the entertainment industry including framed movie posters of the film “Gone with the Wind,” which was partially filmed in the nearby area, as well as pictures of actor Clark Gable outside his Encino home. There are also historical nods to the city with antique postcards and pictures of the famed Encino Oak Tree from the early 1900s.

“We like to pay homage to where we’re at and it’s fun,” Solomon said.

Like other Raising Cane’s the new location will be decorated with disco balls and pictures of Elvis Presley and Cane the dog, which have become a tradition at the restaurant. Unlike many other Raising Cane’s restaurants the new location will not have a drive-thru but will offer a bigger interior and in time people will be able to order from their cars and have the food brought out to them.

Solomon said there are more plans for expansion with more locations coming later this year to Compton and Norwalk.
