Woman hit, killed by ‘distracted driver’ in Hegewisch

A woman who was struck by a car in Hegewisch on the southeast side on Sunday afternoon has died, Chicago police said.

The woman, 65, was crossing the street in the 13500 block of South Avenue O at 3:46 p.m. when a man in a vehicle hit her, police said. She was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center, where she later died.

The 23-year-old driver was cited for distracted driving, and the incident remains under investigation, police said.
