BRENTWOOD — A pedestrian died early Thursday following a collision on a rural state highway, the California Highway Patrol said.

The wreck happened about 5:55 a.m. on Highway 4 near Walnut Boulevard. Details were not immediately available regarding how the wreck occurred.

The agency did confirm it was a fatal wreck.

The CHP said it shut down Highway 4 between Walnut Boulevard and Vasco Road in both directions and did not have an estimate for when it would be open.
