A man who was charged with stabbing his 7-year-old brother at the family’s home in Whittier has pleaded no contest to attempted murder.
Cristian Gutierrez, now 25, was immediately sentenced to 12 years in state prison following his plea on Thursday, Oct. 10, which included admitting that the boy suffered great bodily injury, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
Gutierrez was accused of attacking the boy during a family dispute on May 9 at the home in the 9500 block of Ben Hur Avenue, authorities said.
Gutierrez was arrested early the next morning by Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies and has remained behind bars since then, jail records show.
