AUSD Notes: Several new administrators at Alameda schools this year

First, at 6 p.m. Oct. 15, the AUSD will hold a family forum on “Where to Find Resources in AUSD Schools.” The forum, which will be held online via Microsoft Teams, will cover the school district’s academic and social-emotional resources. Next, the district will hold an Oct. 24 groundbreaking ceremony for Wood Middle School’s new campus. The public is invited to the ceremony that will include information about the new campus as well as updates on current construction projects at Alameda High School (a new swim center and upgrades to Kofman Auditorium) and Encinal High School (a new athletic field).

Also on on Oct. 24, the AUSD Office of Equity will hold a Family Film and Community Night starting at 6:30 p.m. in the Little Theater at Alameda High School that will include a showing of “Tell Them We are Rising,” a documentary that explores the history of Historically Black Colleges and Universities, followed by a panel discussion with AUSD students on the themes presented in the film. Finally, the AUSD will hold two Oct. 29 events. From 5 to 7:30 p.m. at Ruby Bridges Elementary School, the Alameda PTA Council and the school district will jointly host their first “AUSD Wellness Fair: Healthy Kids, Healthy Schools” for families and students of all ages.

The program will provide an opportunity to learn how to nurture students’ emotional health at home and how to find mental and emotional health resources provided to students and families in schools. Free dinner, child care, a mindfulness and yoga workshop and art activities for children will be available. Register to attend at tinyurl.com/AUSD-PTAC10292024.

From 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Encinal Jr. & Sr. High School, staff will host an “AUSD Secondary Math Night” for middle and high school families to learn more about the new secondary math pathways and curriculum. Visit tinyurl.com/AUSD-2ndaryMathPath for details.

We also want to make sure the community knows that we have one seat available on the AUSD’s Parcel Tax Oversight Committee. The committee meets four to six times a year to review revenues and expenditures of the district’s parcel taxes and help develop an annual report.
