OAKLAND — The driver killed in an Oakland crash Saturday morning — suspected of driving a stolen car at the time of his death — was free on bail pending prosecution in another vehicle theft case last month, according to authorities and court records.
The man was identified by the coroner’s bureau Monday as Jacy Meier, 45, of Livermore.
Meier was killed about 3:45 a.m. Saturday when police said the speeding stolen Nissan Altima he was driving crashed into a utility pole at 51st Avenue and San Leandro Street.
The car had been stolen Sept. 29 in San Ramon, authorities said. Oakland police said Meier was the only occupant of the vehicle.

According to court records, at the time of the crash Meier was free on $20,000 bail in a September 19 Fremont case where he was arrested along with another man in a car reported stolen out of San Jose. A gun was found in a backpack belonging to Meier, court records say. He was charged with felony unlawful driving or taking of a vehicle, receiving stolen property — a motor vehicle — and possession of a firearm by a felon, as well as a misdemeanor count of possession of burglar tools.
According to court records Meier had six prior felony convictions going back to 2008 in Alameda and Santa Clara counties, including for drug possession, second degree burglary and unlawful driving or taking of a vehicle as well as being a felon in possession of a firearm. He had served prison terms and has been placed on probation for the convictions.
In March 2018 Meier, while being sought as a home invasion robbery suspect in San Diego County, was able to escape capture by ramming a U.S. Marshals car in San Ysidro. He was arrested on March 15, 2018 in Livermore on drug and gun possession charges. Information on the outcomes of the San Diego and Livermore cases were not available Monday. The ramming case was later dismissed by federal prosecutors.
