Police: South Bay woman arrested after attacking 83-year-old woman with a knife sharpener

PAJARO — The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office arrested a 37-year-old Milpitas woman after she allegedly violently attacked an 83-year-old woman in her home.

A man called 911 shortly before 1 p.m. Wednesday to report that his neighbor was bleeding after being attacked, according to the Sheriff’s Office. The man reportedly had heard his neighbor screaming and went to investigate. Inside the Florence Avenue home, the man allegedly saw a female repeatedly hitting his neighbor in the head with a knife sharpener, according to the agency. The neighbor reportedly pulled the assailant off his neighbor before calling the police.

Deputies responding to the scene said they located alleged assailant Schauntel Marina Gomez and the older woman, suffering from what appeared to be severe head trauma. The victim was transported to a local trauma center for treatment and was later listed as being in stable condition after undergoing surgery.
