Chicago outdoors: Golf course sandhills and Chicago fishing committee

Notes come from around Chicago outdoors and beyond.

WILD OF THE WEEK

Matt Robillard sent his wife’s photo from their backyard in Lakewood of sandhill cranes on ninth hole at Redtail Golf Club. “We see sandhills all summer long, with the most common being the `Three Amigos,’ who always seem to be around. . . . Looks like they’re starting to bunch up in anticipation of their upcoming vacation.”

WOTW, the celebration of wild stories and photos around Chicago outdoors, runs most weeks in the special two-page outdoors section in the Sun-Times Sports Sunday. To make submissions, email BowmanOutside@gmail.com or contact me on Facebook (Dale Bowman), Twitter (@BowmanOutside), Instagram (@BowmanOutside). or Bluesky (@Bowmanoutside).

DALE’S MAILBAG

“We’re moving into the city soon and would like to learn more about the Fishing Committee. I’ve searched the internet for their meeting schedule but can only determine that most are at 10 am but some take place in the evening. I’m retired so that doesn’t matter, but would like to know the schedule.” John, Geneva (soon Streeterville)

A: It’s generally 10 a.m., the third Thursday of the month, at various locations. However, next one is a Tuesday night, Oct. 22, at the Chicago Corinthian Yacht Club at Montrose Harbor from 7-9.
