MARTINEZ — A man has been sentenced to seven years in state prison for killing a teen in an allegedly accidental shooting last year, court records show.
Kai Rossberg, 20, pleaded no contest to involuntary manslaughter and was sentenced earlier this month to seven years with 268 days of time already served while he was in jail. He remains in county jail awaiting transfer to the state prison system, records show.
Rossberg, a Concord resident, was charged last December with involuntary manslaughter and a gun enhancement in the April 29, 2023 shooting death of 19-year-old Jesus Gallegos. He was initially arrested on suspicion of murder, but prosecutors opted for the less serious charge at the end of the police investigation.

Two East Bay brothers charged in fatal shooting, attempted robbery
Gallegos, Rossberg and three juveniles were hanging out together on the day of the homicide on the 400 block of Clifford Court in Bay Point. Two witnesses later told police the two young men were drinking alcohol and playing with a firearm. A 15-year-old girl who was present told police she was certain the gun was unloaded and broken, until Rossberg allegedly fired it.
Rossberg later confirmed that he believed the gun wasn’t functional, but also insisted Gallegos must have accidentally shot himself. Police also said the two friends had a recent falling out and there was some tension between them. A video found on one of the juvenile’s phones showed Rossberg point the gun at the camera.
