Prince Harry is currently in New York City to attend a series of humanitarian events. One of these is the HALO Trust, a group that helps clear landmines and war debris.

The organization gained international attention when Princess Diana walked through an active landmine in Angola. She called for a global ban against landmines in 1997. Months later, she died in a car accident in Paris, France.

During his speech for the HALO Trust, Prince Harry spoke of his children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. He revealed that his late mother, Princess Diana, would be “horrified” knowing there were still so many areas infested with land mines.

“Much has changed in my life and the world since 2019 when I first visited,” Harry shared. “In those five years, I’ve become a father for the second time. And while you don’t need children to have a stake in the future of our planet, I do know that my mother would have been horrified that anyone’s children or grandchildren would live in a world still infested with mines.”

Harry concluded, “Where she [Diana] first walked in 1997, I found a bustling, vibrant town. I met hundreds of schoolchildren who had no idea that the ground they stood on was once riddled with landmines. It is moments like these that I am personally grateful for our collective efforts. Grateful for the resolve and determination to see this through.”

Over 20 years later, Prince Harry, wearing an outfit similar to his late mother’s, visited a HALO Trust mine site in Angola. He met with community members to learn how de-mining efforts are benefiting residents, reported <a href=”https://people.com/royals/prince-harry-follows-in-mom-princess-dianas-footsteps-by-visiting-angola-landmine-field/” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>People Magazine. Due to her efforts, the field Harry walked five years prior was cleared of the devices that dotted the landscape when his mother visited.
