SAN LEANDRO — Two brothers were charged Monday in the fatal shooting May 5 of a 53-year-old man during an attempted robbery outside his home, according to police and court records.
Erick Moreno, 18, and Mauricio Moreno, 28, both of Hayward, were each charged with murder and attempted second degree robbery. Mauricio Moreno was also charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm.
They were charged in the May 5 fatal shooting of Anderson Choy, killed outside his Benedict Drive home about 6:30 p.m. May 5. They are both being held without bail and are scheduled to enter pleas Tuesday.
According to police, Choy was puling into the driveway of his home when two suspects — one armed with an AR-15 style assault rifle — approached his vehicle in an apparent attempted robbery. Choy was shot in the neck while still inside his vehicle and was later pronounced deceased at the scene.

In a news release Monday, police said they were able to identify the suspects through video surveillance footage and “other digital evidence.” They were arrested separately in Hayward and Castro Valley last Thursday.
A third suspect was initially arrested on suspicion of being an accessory to the killing, but that person was later released and has not been charged.
San Leandro Lt. Abe Teng said in the release that “A lot of time was spent painstakingly gleaning evidence and conducting surveillance to build a case strong enough to go beyond just making arrests.”
