SAN JOSE — An East Bay man has been arrested in connection with a deadly 2022 shooting in North San Jose, with his capture occurring more than a year after he reportedly fled to El Salvador, authorities said.
Carlos Hernandez Monroy, 30, of Hayward, was booked Tuesday into the Santa Clara County Main Jail on suspicion of murder. He was being held without bail.
Hernandez Monroy was extradited to the Bay Area this week after spending the past two months in the custody of U.S. Customs and Border Protection, who arrested him in McAllen, Texas on May 27, according to San Jose police.

Hernandez Monroy is suspected in a shooting reported the afternoon of Nov. 18, 2022 near a luxury apartment complex on River Oaks Parkway, east of Montague Expressway. Responding officers found 54-year-old Armando Baltazar Gonzalez suffering from gunshot injuries; he later died at a hospital.
The shooter fled before police arrived, and an ensuing investigation identified Hernandez Monroy as a suspect. But by the time he was identified, police learned that he had left for El Salvador.
The homicide marked the city’s 35th and final homicide investigated by San Jose police in 2022.
