Man shot, killed by Pueblo police in fast food parking lot

A man is dead following a shootout in a Pueblo fast food parking lot Wednesday night.

Pueblo officers responded to reports of a man with a weapon around 7:45 p.m. Wednesday, according to a statement from the police department.

Officers found what they believed to be the suspect’s vehicle in the parking lot of a Popeyes in the 1500 block of West Highway 50, near the Pueblo County Club, according to the statement.

The man in the vehicle ignored police commands to show his hands and began shooting at officers, police said in the statement. This information is preliminary and has not been confirmed with camera footage.

Pueblo officers shot at and killed the suspect, who will be identified by the Pueblo County Coroner. No officers were injured in the incident.

The shooting is under investigation by the 10th Judicial District’s Critical Incident Response Team, led by the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office. The involved officers were placed on administrative leave pending the investigation, per standard protocol.
