Pickup truck driver fatally strikes motorcyclist on Highway 1

A motorcyclist in his late 20s was fatally struck Saturday night by a pickup truck driver on Highway 1 and Mirada Road in Miramar, just north of Half Moon Bay, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call around 5:45 p.m. A volunteer firefighter in the area attempted to perform CPR on the motorcyclist, but he succumbed to his injuries at the scene, said Sgt. Phillip Hallworth.

Highway 1 was shut down northbound and southbound from 6 to 10 p.m. as officials from the Sheriff’s Office Major Accident Investigation Team responded.

The pickup truck driver remained on scene and is cooperating with the investigation, Hallworth said.

The motorcyclist’s identity has not yet been released.
