PHILADELPHIA – It seems as though the Philadelphia performance world is at the end of an era, as several local news outlets are reporting the historic Trocadero Theatre is closing.
Philly.com reports an employee at the Arch Street venue said its doors are closing.
The folks at Philadelphia Magazine reports that in addition to the employee’s word, bands, promoters, and concert producers said upcoming shows at the Troc have been canceled or moved due to the impending closure.
According to the venue’s website, there are only 12 events on the calendar as of March 14.
The theater was built in 1870 and in its storied lifetime has gone by many names, including the Arch Street Opera House, the Continental Theatre, the Troc Theatre, Sweatman’s Arch Street Opera House, and the Simmon’s Theatre.
It fits about 1,200 people.
