Dani Alves reveals lessons PSG learned from Liverpool defeat

Dani Alves insists Paris Saint-Germain must show they have learned from mistakes made against Liverpool if they are to see off Manchester United in their Champions League last 16 tie.

The French champions remain desperate for the European success, but have failed to reach the last four of Europe’s premier club competition.

And Thomas Tuchel’s side showed familiar frailties during September’s 3-2 defeat at Liverpool.

Now, ahead of Tuesday night’s clash at Old Trafford, Alves, a three-time winner with Barcelona , insists they must show they have put the mistakes made on Merseyside behind them.

“We have to learn from mistakes made during the competition and not to reproduce them,” said the Brazilian.

“There are few matches in the Champions League, so there is little room for error. We have to capitalise on what we do well because we have great ambitions in this competition.

“In Liverpool, we made some mistakes, and we surpassed that later. But we can not afford to commit them at this stage of the competition.

“We managed to create a game identity after the match against Liverpool.

“We must take care of all the details, to have no regrets on arrival. But we trust our forces before facing Manchester.

“We need to raise our level of performance, concentration, raise our level in duels, but I know we can do it, and we will do it.

“It will not be easy, of course, they will not give us presents. We will have to race each other to clinch the qualification.”

Asked about the fixture at Anfield – in which PSG fell 2-0 down, rallied to get back to 2-2, before losing to Roberto Firmino’s injury-time goal – Alves added: “We started with a rather negative result at Anfield, and then we raised our level in the competition, when we had to show everyone our ability and strength.

“In the second leg against Liverpool, we responded. When we had to win, we went to get the result. We got the qualification and the first place of the group.”
