Zack Snyder stepped down from his directing Justice League after his daughter died by suicide, turning over directorial duties to Joss Whedon. The former Avengers director was said to be directing additional photography as well as overseeing the post-production process in an effort to maintain Zack Snyder’s original vision. However, what was seen in the film’s marketing differed vastly from the theatrical cut.
The outcome from the behind-the-scenes changes resulted in what some inside Warner Bros. described as a Frankenstein between the two directors and the so-called “Snyder Cut” remains to be seen to this day.
Justice League stars Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Gal Gadot as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman, Jason Momoa as Arthur Curry/Aquaman, Ezra Miller as Barry Allen/The Flash, Ray Fisher as Victor Stone/Cyborg, Henry Cavill as Clark Kent/Superman, Ciaran Hinds as Steppenwolf, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Amber Heard as Mera, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, J.K. Simmons as Commissioner James Gordon, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Connie Nielsen as Queen Hippolyta, Willem Dafoe as Nuidis Vulko and Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor.
Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes-Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash-it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.
Justice League is now available on Blu-Ray, DVD, and Digital HD. The DCEU continues with Aquaman, which is in theaters now, followed by Shazam! on April 5, 2019, Birds of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) on February 7, 2020, and Wonder Woman 1984 on June 5, 2020.
