An autopsy conducted Sunday morning determined the cause of death was suicide.

Police confirmed Sunday morning that a body found in the woods of North Yarmouth, Maine on Friday was missing teacher Kristin Westra.

The 47-year-old was reported missing by her husband just a few days earlier, on October 8, when he woke up and found her missing from their bed. Jay Westra said the last time he had seen his wife was the night before, when they both went to bed around 8 p.m.

Her body was found Friday morning by two girls playing in the woods about a half-mile from her home.

An autopsy conducted Sunday revealed her cause of death as suicide. Authorities wouldn’t reveal more details of how she died.

Last Wednesday, Westra’s husband spoke to news outlets about the anxiety his wife had been facing recently.

Her brother, Eric Rohrbach, told the Portland Press Herald that her life was more stressful lately due to renovations that were taking place both at the school where she worked and at home.

The day before she disappeared, Jay Westra said he took his wife to a licensed clinical nurse practitioner, but the medical professional said she wasn’t a risk to herself or others, so the couple returned home to have dinner and go to bed, according to NBC News.

In addition to her husband, Westra leaves behind a school-age daughter and a teen step-son.
