Matthews, Nylander give Maple Leafs exactly what they needed in Game 3


TORONTO – If it’s possible to label anything William Nylander and Auston Matthews do vintage, this was vintage.

The Toronto Maple Leafs kids whirled around against the Boston Bruins top line, pushing and pushing and pushing towards a goal.

Then the release – first off Matthews’ stick from the bottom left circle, then inside the Air Canada Centre, where the Leafs proved they’ve got some life left on Monday by beating the Bruins 4-2 in Game 3.

It was exactly what was needed after the letdown in Beantown. Toronto had absolutely no answer for Brad Marchand, Patrice Bergeron and David Pastrnak while falling behind 0-2 in the series and found one here in an unlikely place: Tomas Plekanec.
