WALNUT CREEK — A suspect in an attempted sexual assault on the Iron Horse Regional Trail was arrested by police Saturday afternoon a few blocks away from where the attack occurred two days earlier.
Jeremy Mickens, 35, of San Francisco, was arrested by Walnut Creek police about 12:45 p.m. Saturday after an officer spotted him hanging out in front of a Safeway grocery store on South Broadway, East Bay Regional Park District police reported.
Mickens was booked on suspicion of multiple felony charges in connection with the assault.
Police said a woman was ambushed from behind about 5:30 Thursday as she walked on the popular regional trail just south of Newell Avenue in Walnut Creek.
The woman told police the man attacked her, and she believed the man was going to sexually assault her before he ran away without doing so.
In a cooperative investigation, Walnut Creek and East Bay Regional Park police were looking for the suspect and released a description to the public. A Walnut Creek officer familiar with the case spotted the suspect Saturday afternoon and summoned help to make the arrest.
